ORQUESTRA SEM FRONTEIRAS
Love is the strongest element in the bond between people, but it can also be the strongest element in the creative impulses that arise from it. This concert presents, in a linked fashion, two of the most important and fruitful love stories in classical music. On the one hand, the immortal couple Clara and Robert Schumann, which needs no introduction. On the other hand, the couple of American composers Samuel Barber and Gian Carlo Menotti, whose four-decade relationship crossed their entire creative lives, serving as a formidable testimony of resilience, humanity, and an example of civil rights. This program opens with one of the most touching and most touched pages by Samuel Barber, the immortal Adagio for Strings, and, after a dialogue between works and authors, culminates with the brilliant and dramatic piano concerto by Clara Schumann, interpreted by one of the most renowned young portuguese pianists, Vasco Dantas.
