by Elmano Sancho
Jesus, the Son, portrays the contemporary, unpredictable universe of successive and unexpected losses: the loss of youth, dreams, family, identity, courage, integrity, freedom, life. The show is an apokálypsis (revelation, in Greek), an act of faith, an immolation, a poetic-perverse ceremonial about farewell, the end of the world and the search for salvation. Jesus, the central character – who is not Jesus, but who is still a “messiah” – speaks to us without artifice, revealing his courage and intelligence. He is an ordinary man who does not allow himself to be influenced, who does not change his speech or tone of voice. Who is firm and resistant, relentless in his criticism of the world. It gains a mythical and heroic, political and human dimension, which distinguishes it from all the others. A man who is going to die, but who remains where he is. Being who he is. Human. A guiding man who is afraid, like all of us, but who lives on, in the midst of horror and death.
